NEWS FLASH: May 2000
Local electronics retailer celebrates 50 years in business.
You may have seen us on the New PL or in local papers as we celebrated that important milestone last year. That was not the first time Ardiel Electronics was front and centre in the London retail market.
Early '50's- operating from an auto repair garage and the Igloo Lunch, Lorne Ardiel was one of the first to offer television to the public. Demonstrations were offered via a portable tip-up antenna mounted on a truck. Note: - this was before CFPL London even existed.
Throughout the 50's and 60's the business gradually moved to concentrate on television and appliance sales and service. If you had a television, you also, needed an antenna to draw in those extra channels and Ardiel Electronics would be happy to install that for you. When fire destroyed the original building, in 1961, the move from auto shop to appliance retail sales became complete. During these years' the business won a number of awards from Panasonic and other appliance manufacturers and wholesalers.
Late '70's- early '80's- The newest technology was free to air satellite transmissions, received on large, " C-Band", ten foot dishes. Custom-made, locally produced EZC dishes were rotated by a simple and extremely durable "cradle" mount patented by Lorne Ardiel. As the political situation as well as the technological one changed, the next market was the "legal" Canadian system, CANCOM. Ardiel Electronics was the only satellite retailer in the South-western Ontario market to win sales awards for marketing this system.
Late '90's- as the markets continued to evolve; the current Star Choice and ExpressVu systems became the focus of the electronics industry. One of the few retailers outside the Big Box group to offer consumers either system, we continue to provide the widest range of services to our customers including those still using C-Band dishes.
NEWS FLASH: Ardiel Electronics offers high speed, two-way, internet services via satellite -with no phone line required and available virtually anywhere in Canada. Geared to rural customers, especially those with business requirements this system provides service currently available from C-COM Satellite Systems Inc.
Again, Ardiel Electronics find themselves on the cutting edge of technology.
